Harold Dennis Moyer

Harold Dennis Moyer, 80, a retired electrical engineer, data processing manager, inventory control manager, eagle scout, husband, father and grandfather was born in Sellersville, PA on January 2, 1943.  He died on June 9, 2023.

Education

After earning his high school diploma from North Penn High Schools, he attended Drexel University for about a year and then moved to Arlington, VA and started attending Capital Institute of Technology (CIT) where he earned an Associated degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1973.  His father, Paul Moyer, was a correspondence student of Capital Radio Engineering Institute (CREI) later CIT.  Harold’s son, John Moyer, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Capitol College (previously CIT), making him the 3rd generation of what is now Capital Technology University.

Marriage

In 1971 Harold was introduced to Delphine Campa by a coworker of Del’s who attended Bethel UCC in Arlington, VA with Harold.  Unbeknownst to either, she had already introduced five other couples to their future spouses.  Del found Harold to be a good conversationalist and despite buying her liquorish candy on their first date they continued dating.  On August 18, 1973 they were married at Bethel UCC

Career

When Harold moved from Lansdale to the DC area he began working for Melpar.  Some of his work included guidance components for the minuteman missile.  After receiving his BS in Electrical Engineering Harold found a new position at Computer Entry System Corp.  A few years later he changed jobs again this time to Gardiner Neotec.  Gardiner Neotech later bought by Pacific Scientific then by Perstorp Analytical of Sweden and finally by Foss NIRSystems of Denmark.  Over the 32 years he worked there he transitioned from Electrical Engineering to Data Processing Manager and finally to an Inventory Control Manager.

Church

From a young age he was active with church.  He attended Sunday school earning perfect attendance awards for several years.  When he moved to Arlington, VA he began attending Bethel UCC.  When he moved to Wheaton he attended Millian UMC but finally felt at home at St. Paul’s UMC. He was active in the United Methodist Men’s group, Friendship Club and R.O.M.E.O.’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out).  He helped with the annual UMM apple and tree sales and biannual rummage sales.  As well as numerous trips to West River for service projects.  Pancake breakfast was a favorite with the Friday trips to Mt. Airy to get sausage and eggs and then the Saturday morning breakfast, frequently with both sons and later with grandsons as well.  He attended St. Paul’s most Sundays and even completed Disciples I, II, & III.

Scouting

Harold was a lifelong avid scouter; he began in Cub Scouts where his mother was a den mother.  After completing the Cub Scout ranks of Wolf, Bear and Lion he crossed over to Boy Scouts.  He earned his Eagle with Troop 61 in Lansdale, PA.  Some of his fondest memories took place at the National Jamboree in Valley Forge in 1964 with over 50,000 of his closest personal fellow scouts.  Not long after moving to Arlington, VA he became scoutmaster of a Boy Scout Troop for several years.  When David was a Tiger Cub in second grade he immediately got involved as a leader with Pack 1301 and was later den leader for David as a Bear and Webelos and later a den leader for John.  He again became immediately involved as an assistant scoutmaster in Troop 439 and later scoutmaster.  For almost 10 years after David and John had left Troop 439 he continued to be active and even spend a week every summer with the troop at Camp Bowman at Goshen.  With the reintroduction of Lion Scouts in 2018 for Kindergartens, Harold and his grandson Nolan are the only two scouts in the family to have ever been Lions Scouts.

Hobbies

Harold had several hobbies.  As a young child he got interested in philately and   numismatics (stamp and coin collecting).  Harold learned to play the organ and accordion and even custom-built his electronic organ with pedals.  His mother’s hobby also heavily influenced him and he too was a long-time needle pointer.  He stitched thousands of things including his organ’s bench seat, two and a half sections of communion kneelers for St. Paul’s, and blocks with bells in them for his grandsons.
